Dropping a perpendicular line

Back to constructions homepage

Back to Geometry homepage

In this exercise you are given a line \(AB\) and a point \(X\) which is not on \(AB\). Your task is to construct a point \(Y\) such that \(XY \perp AB\).

Once you have done the construction you can use the angle tool to measure the angle \(\angle AYX\)and confirm that it is indeed a right angle.

The diagram contains an example of a point \(C\) not on the line \(AB\) and a point \(D\) on \(AB\) such that \(\angle ADC = 90^\circ\).
